Falling in love in high school is something you never forget. It’s sweet and innocent, but it’s doomed to end, right? Not necessarily. Your high school sweetheart could still come back into your life years later. Suddenly, the spark you thought had died comes back to life and you realize you were meant to be together all along. Here’s why it’s not totally impossible:
1. YOU BOTH JUST NEEDED TIME TO GROW.
Let’s face it — you’re not exactly ready for a mature, adult relationship as a teenager. It’s not unusual to want to take some time apart to grow and find your individual self. Once you’ve both grown some, it’s easier to make the relationship work.
2. HE WAS YOUR FIRST LOVE.
Your first love will always hold a special place in your heart. For some women, it’s still the love that means the most and nothing else compares. Eventually, that leads you right back to the person who you trusted with your heart.
3. YOU KEEP IN TOUCH ON SOCIAL MEDIA.
Despite the big split, you’re still friends on social media. You talk regularly, comment on photos, and can’t imagine not sharing your big moments with him. You might just be closer to him than you think.
4. HE REMEMBERS AND RESPECTS YOUR DREAMS.
Your high school sweetheart was there when you shared all your dreams and thought anything was possible. While guys you dated in college and after might laugh at some of those dreams, he still believes in you. He even reminds you of dreams you’d pushed to the side.
5. YOU REGRETTED BREAKING UP.
A part of you has always regretting breaking up. You wondered if you could’ve made the long distance thing work. The moment you see him again, it all comes flooding back and realize the breakup was a big mistake.
6. SEEING HIM WITH SOMEONE ELSE MAKES YOU JEALOUS.
He’s just a ex, so why do you feel so jealous when you see him dating someone else? It could be a sign you never got over him and don’t really want to. Maybe the next time he’s single, see if he wants to try again.
7. HE’S STILL YOUR BEST FRIEND.
It’s hard for your first love not to be your best friend too. Somehow you managed to keep that friendship going even after breaking up. Fast forward 10 years and he’s still your BFF. If you think about it, he’s even more than that.
8. HE’S STILL THE ONE WHO LOVED YOU MOST.
Other guys have told you they loved you, but you know that he’s still the one who loved you more than anyone. He’s the only one who said it and made it feel right.
